Suncore Hosts Utah County SWAT Training at Spanish Fork Yard

At the end of 2025, Utah County SWAT approached Suncore with a unique request: they were looking for a place to hold training for a large group of officers in a setting that felt closer to what they may encounter in the field.

“When two rough-looking, bearded guys walked into Suncore’s office and asked to speak with me, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect,” said Cameron Ruppe, Director of Safety at Suncore. “When they introduced themselves as members of Utah County SWAT, I was even more confused about what we could do for them. I was instantly excited when they asked about the possibility of using our facility as a location for training.”

Suncore’s shop and yard in Spanish Fork offered the right kind of environment. With equipment, materials and structures throughout the site, the team was able to create realistic training scenarios that challenged officers to make decisions in difficult conditions.

The layout of the yard gave trainees the opportunity to practice using cover and navigating around obstacles. Inside the shop and wash bay, officers worked through limited visibility situations involving stairs and doorways. Smoke machines were also used to add another layer of realism to the training.

Community members helped make the scenarios more practical by acting as hostages and suspects. Their involvement gave officers a chance to practice responding to situations where civilians may be present, which is an important part of preparing for real emergencies.

“Suncore team members and the members of Utah County SWAT come from all different backgrounds, but we all share the goal of keeping people safe,” Ruppe said. “I’m truly grateful that we were able to help facilitate this training.”

As a token of gratitude for using the facility, Suncore was presented with Utah County SWAT’s challenge coin.

By opening its Spanish Fork facility, Suncore helped Utah County SWAT train in a realistic setting that better prepares officers for the situations they may face in the field.
